RE: Donnie Bell Manly (not Manley) of Abilene, TX 1923. Donnie Bell MAY Manly, b. 12 Aug 1905 in Jones County, TX, d. Oct 1987 in Oklahoma City, OK, is the ADOPTED DAUGHTER of Carol Beasley Manly and Urma May Taylor. Donnie Bell’s birth mother, Mollie May, was in bed recovering from blood poisioning, shortly after the birth of her third child, when lightning struck their home and she died from the shock. (See obituary in the Abilene Reporter-News, 24 May 1908.) She left her husband with an infant boy, two year old Donnie Bell and another four and a half year old son. Carol and Urma Manly took the girl and later adopted her. Mr. May kept both boys, both of whom died several months later and are buried in a single casket in Round Mound Cemetery, Jones County, TX. (See obituary in the Abilene Reporter-News, 13 Nov 1908.)
