Notes for William John MANLEY
William joined the army (Royal Artillery Garrison) in Kinsale, Co. Cork in1884 and spent his career in various parts of the world. He served on the Isle of Wight in Golden Fort and met and married Julia Purkis while there. They had four sons, Gerald, Raymond Victor, Cecil and Bernard. William and Julia retired to Plumstead, London in 1907 but William rejoined the army during World War 1. His eldest three sons also served in that war and Bernard had a distinguished career in World War 2. William died in Plumstead in 1942.
